The lawn mower probably didnt need the second set but I panicked when not making it through my large lawn in one charge on the original set. My grass had gotten pretty high and was the first mowing of the year. Since I have gone without the second set each time. But, I am still glad I got them.

(More customer reviews)This blade is a direct replacement for my Lawn-Boy 10686 mower.I searched around online and according to reviews, the Gator blades seemed to be one of the better blades for mulching.In the past few years I've been mulching as opposed to bagging.The original Lawn-Boy blade wasn't too bad, but it would clump sometimes on the lower height settings.I was about due for a blade anyhow so I opted for the Gator blade to see if it would do a better job.While the Gator blade "looks" more aggressive, I can see no discernible difference from the OEM blade when mulching.It equally leaves clumps and bogs down the 6.75hp motor on the lower height settings (#2 in my case) and mulches just as well on the medium height setting (#2.5).So in the end, not too much to say here if you are comparing it with an OEM Lawn-Boy blade.I'd compare prices and go with whichever is cheaper (OEM vs Gator).

(More customer reviews)Last year my lawn was cutting uneven and mulched grass was clumping.This blade works great.The lawn cuts perfectly even, and even during Spring mowings when grass gets a little long between cuttings this blade does the trick.What isn't immediately noticable is that the clippings are smaller so when you get clumps of mulched grass they are blown away or decompose faster.

I've heard lots of great things about what this blade does for leaves so I can't wait for Fall.Wait, what am I saying?!!

(More customer reviews)I purchased a pair of Oregon Gator blades to replace the worn/bent Sears blades on my Craftsman 42" riding mower. The Oregon Gator blades are MUCH heavier duty, thicker, and are on a whole different level than Sears blades when it comes to quality. These blades can hit stumps, rocks, and other debris and are bulletproof. No signs of wear at all after 5-6 mows of tall, thick grass.

A word of advice - make sure you install the blade properly. The teeth on the back of the blade must be pointed upward toward the top of the mowing deck. I made the mistake of installing them upside-down, and unfortunately mowed about 1/2 my lawn with the blades in the wrong position. Surprisingly the cut looked fine, but a few days later I noticed the badly torn grass blades, and knew that I installed the blades improperly. Dumb move, I know, but I had already taken off my other blades (which were bent/worn) and didn't bother to double-check the orientation of the cutting edge before installing the new blades. Just made the wrong assumption that the teeth should curve down toward the grass, and torn grass blades were the result.

These Oregon Gator blades would have received 5-stars, but I rated it 4-stars because there was no "grass-side down" marking on the blade, as is always the case with Craftsman mower blades. Otherwise, these blades I'm sure will outlast the mower as they are made of hardened steel and are much thicker gauge than other mower blades. Do NOT sharpen these blades out of the box, the protective layer of paint on the edge makes the blade feel dull, but it will wear off during the first mow, revealing the sharp edge. The blades are sharpened by precision at the factory for the most ideal cut, so by trying to sharpen the blades when they are new, the efficiency and effectiveness of the blade is reduced.

The Oregon 21" Gator blades will outlast most other mower blades sold at Sears and other stores, they are a smart investment as you'll save $$ by not having to sharpen/replace these every year.

I did not use the bag and it mulched the leaves into little pieces! It works really well! I am very happy!Update...Here it is April 2010 and I uncovered the mower, put some fresh gasoline in it and turned the key......It cranked right away! I thought that I might have to baby it since it had not been used in several months!! No such thing!! I am so glad that I bought this and you will be also!

(More customer reviews)While this is not the classic Lawn Boy of old with a 2-cycle engine and aluminum deck, it is a quality mower with great features for the price.Lawn Boy is owned by Toro, and this is an entry level line added by Toro to extend Lawn Boys product line.It comes with a great 2 year warranty if you have any doubts.

First and foremost, it is a rear-drive mower (better than front drive) for a price less than other brands charge for front drive.Briggs and Stratton is a quality engine that usually outlasts the mower decks. Yes, its 6.5 Torque, not HP, but most mowers are rating by torque now.

Mine started in 1 pull right out of the box (after adding oil and gas).The rear drive is powerful and variable speed by the handle (another handy feature).

Yes, it does do side discharge. The accessory for side discharge is not included in the box (since many only mulch or bag), but Lawn Boy will send it for FREE if you request it (by mail per included postcard or online during registration).Mine came in less than a week, although they say it may take 4-5 weeks.

The other reviewers must have been expecting the top of the line Lawn Boy at a bargain price.This is a quality mower, and when you compare it feature for feature even lower end mowers can stack up to it for the price.
