(More customer reviews)I had been looking for this type of grass catcher for quite some time and at the right price. Each time I found it, it was close to $100.00 and so I thought that I'd try second-hand stores and yard sales but never found any and plus, 17" grass catchers were tricky to find. I tried Ebay and still nothing. Finally, I found it on Amazon for half the price of local gardening stores. It was initially out of stock but Amazon informed me by email when they had it availiable. The catcher fits perfectly on my McLane lawnmower and does it's job of grass catching superbly. It seems very durable and I hope that it lasts for a long time. The shipping was very fast and I am very satisfied with my product and would recommend this item and my experience with Amazon to anyone. Thanks.

(More customer reviews)I bought this mower when my last rechargeable battery-powered mower finally died. (The Earthwise.Horrible product).I decided it was time to try a different tactic and get a reel mower.

I bought this mower because it could leave the grass 4" deep.I keep my lawn at 3" so I have to water less frequently, and I wanted an inch of play in case I forgot a week.I also liked the guide wheels in front, and the solid look of the mower.

The mower was a pleasant surprise for two reasons:

1.It was EXACTLY as easy to push as the rechargeable mower.It turns out that the energy needed to spin the sharp blades is the same as the energy needed to shove a battery and electric motor around the yard.I had thought I'd get more exercise with a reel mower, but the exercise was the same.

2.The assembly instructions were THE BEST assembly instructions I've ever seen.As someone whose easily confused by the slightest ambiguity in instructions, I appreciated the ease of assembly.

I've been mowing more frequently lately, and have been willing to do it at 7AM because there's no motor sound to wake my family.The mower is fun to use and my lawn looks great.

The blades are still sharp.It's lightweight.I can mow at night or in the morning and not worry about the noise bothering anyone.I'm single and I love that I never have to worry about it not starting!It cuts the grass beautifully.Another girlfriend just bought one and is thrilled with hers as well.

The only annoying thing is that if you are carrying the lawn mower for whatever reason, as in I have to lift it from my garage up my cement steps to my yard, the handle sometimes unlatches off the mower part. There should be a clip or something to keep the handle hooked on, but there isn't....

No more lawnmower fumes and heat in my face.
Cutting my lawn is now very quiet.
My hands are no longer tingle from the vibrations coming from my old gas powered push mower.
Sturdy handle design.This is very important.
Very easy to assemble and use.
Very small footprint, easy to store.
Virtually maintenence free.

Cons:
This mower DOES NOT like tall thick grass.You'll really have to push hard to get it to go through thick grass and will probalby have to go over what you just cut a second time to make the lawn look manicured.
If you fertilize your lawn you'll need to cut it about every other day.Like I said this mower does not like tall thick grass.
If you have any large mature trees in your yard this mower is not for you.You'll spend too much time picking up very small twigs that otherwise will get caught in the mower blades and bring you to a sudden stop.
Little bumps in the lawn have a tendancy to bring the mower to a stop.
Brill could have made cutting high grass easier if this mower was capable of cutting at a higher leangth then what is available.

Other observations:
The size of your lawn doesn't matter as long as it is fairly smooth and not too hilly.
Don't throw away the little metallic strip that comes with the mower. This is your blade gauge and will cost you $10 to replace.
Overall if your in good shape and have patience with this mower you should be okay.The most improtant suggestion I would make is that you hold on to your gas mower to keep your grass under control when rain prevents cutting, otherwise you'll be in for a shoving match with this mower.

American Lawn Mower 1ST-SP Reel Mower Grass Catcher Review

(More customer reviews)I bought a Scotts 2000-20-20 and wanted a Grass Catcher with it. Though all the reviewers warned of not having the instructions to attach this grass catcher to Scotts 2000, I went ahead and bought it. My catcher arrived with no instructions at all. Fortunately, the same model was available in my Home Depot and I went through the instructions. Completely useless.

Here are the instructions and the material you will need. This is what works great for me. Your experience may vary

1. Place catcher close to the Black rod behind the catcher.
2. The grass is thrown to your left, if you standing behind the catcher. So place the catcher to the extreme left of the black rod. The space on the right hand is not a problem.
3. Cut four square patches of small Velcro and attach to 2 pieces to the black rod and 2 pieces to the catcher on either end where the steel rod is exposed. This prevents the catcher from sliding to the right.
4. Use a strip of velcro to attach the catcher securely to the black rod.
5. You are in business. Go cut some grass.

The velcro helps in detaching the catcher from the scotts for easy storage (duct tape works, but is too hard to remove. You can use twistix, but the catcher slides)

(More customer reviews)This summer, sick of my dirty, smelly, loud gas-powered mower, I decided to purchase a reel mower. As someone who considers himself to be environmentally friendly, I no longer felt comfortable using a polluting machine on my lawn. At the same time, I didn't want to turn lawn mowing into a huge, difficult task. After researching every model on the market, I decided I would give the Scotts 2000-20 reel mower a try. My idea of lawn mowing has completely changed. What used to be a tedious, annoying task is now pleasant and relaxing, due to the ease of use and functionality of this mower. Out of the box, it is very clear how to put this mower together, and it should take no more than about 30 minutes to get the assembly done. Just remember to put some dishwashing detergent inside the rubber handle cover before you slide it on. Then you're ready to go. The height adjustment, which is located near one of the rear wheels, is very easy to access: you simply push a lever in and slide it to the correct height level. The height levels are clearly marked right on a dial (a lot easier than having to get out your wrench and screwdriver for most gas-powered mowers). In actual cutting, this mower is very smooth. With minimal energy, the blades spin with good speed and torque, easily cutting the grass down to size. I have a somewhat weedy lawn, and I was concerned that this mower might bog down, but it cuts everything with the same smoothness. My lawn also has several uneven spots, but this mower handled that nicely as well. The rear wheels keep the mower balanced as you push it. If you push faster, of course, the blades will run faster. However, at a casual pace, the blades definitely spin fast enough to take care of a typical lawn. I have even "let my lawn go" a couple of times this summer (it grew to about 6" in height at one point), but the mower handles it just fine. As you're mowing, you'll notice that there is a lot less dust flying around, no smell of fumes, and you can listen to birds and natural sounds the entire time you're outside. This reel mower cuts the grass more cleanly for sure -- you can see that the grass is greener when you're done, without brown tips. When I cut my lawn, I leave the cuttings there and allow them to mulch into the soil. The mower is light enough to lift and carry into a storage area. You don't have to keep oil and gas around, so this mower takes up the minimal amount of space. Here are the only disadvantages to this mower: (1) You can only get about 6" to an edge; (2) If a stick gets into the blade, you have to stop and pull it out; (3) You will not be visiting the local lawnmower repair shop every season for a tune up, spark plugs, air filter, and any number of other unpredictable problems. Since I started using this mower, several people have asked me if it's more difficult to use, if it's slower, or cuts worse. I assume potential buyers are asking the same questions. I will venture to say that it is actually JUST AS EASY TO USE A REEL MOWER AS IT IS TO USE A GAS-POWERED MODEL. There is NOTHING about a gas-powered mower than makes it easier to use, and gas-powered mowers do not save any time, espcially when you consider all the peripheral needs of owning one. Overall, this is an example of a simple, low-tech solution to a common need.
