I just cut off about 3 inches of the guard which is just a soft plastic and it works great. The mower has plenty of power and it is quiet. It mulches high grass OK and does normal length grass fine. All in all a fine mower.

I bought this a few months back because I needed something to repair the damage done to my yard due to undergrown moles. If you are somebody like me who takes pride in their lawn, then you would understand my frustrations when you wake up in the morning to find your yard turned into a battlefied.

I decided sometime ago that it was time to sign up to the army faction against mole infestations. Little did I know that I would be up against a little varment who would make my life hell trying to take it out! Seriously, I have tried shooting water down the tunnles, mole traps, and mole bombs. In WWII, that last one would have been effective, but these little varments are tricky little critters I tell ya.

FYI, as it turns out, the ultimate weapon against the moles are the grubs. The moles like to eat the grubs, so the simple solution is to lay down a insect killer. If you kill the grubs, you get rid of the moles! Once I started using this secret weapon, the moles began to dissapear and would show up in the neighbors vegitable garden. HAHA, take that you sneaky little varments, oh yeah, my neighbor really loves me.......NOT

So, I got rid of the beasty moles right, but I am left with a problem. My used to be level and even lawn has now become an uneven mess. Another contributing factor to your lawn being uneven is the frost and dethaws we have each winter. What you want to fix this issue is one of these handy dandy lawn rollers. Keep in mind that this model is for towing behind tractors, NOT FOR PUSHING.

I own a Husqvara 23HP V-Twin with a hydrostatic drive and some people think that the hydrostatic drive transmitions are not strong enough to pull all the weight of a fully filled roller. After experiancing the use of my lawn roller, they could not be more wrong. When fully filled with water, the roller will weigh roughly 400 pounds. Yes the site claims 331 pounds but every other brand of same sise roller states 400 pounds. Simple math, a gallon of water weighs 10 pounds. So, take 40 gallons of water times 10 and you get 400.

Another thing to keep in mind is that this is a polly roller, hence it is plastic. So when this roller is fully filled, you really don't want to role over concrete too much as this will scratch up the roller and possibly damage it. Incase you are wondering, the roller only weighs 50 pounds when empty, so it is easy to put in storage with both hands.

I found that assembly was super easy and all parts were there. All you need is some simple tools to put this together. Such as a pair of pliers and a socket wrench or open ended wrenches. And don't worry about weather or not the roller will fit your tractor, its designed to be universal and will fit any tractor with a standard hitch. And yes, it does come with its own hitch pin if you do not have one.

Now, one thing you want to keep in mind when using a lawn roller, is that you can do a better job when the lawn is wet. You don't want it to be soaking wet where your just going to fall into mud, but you do want it wet. So following this technique, and moving no faster then 3MPH, I was able to role my lawn and it came out pretty darn level. And some spots which were really bad, I had to go over twice.

Main thing to remember here is that this is not a steem roller, so please don't expect it to smooth out tractor or truck ruts. Again, this is a roller to smooth out the bumps and uneven land caused by the moles from hell. And for its intended purpose, I think it does really well. I do want to point out however that it uses a expansion plug to plug the water filler hole in the roller. As such, if you do not tighten the wing nut enough, it could fall out of the hole as it did for me, keep it tight, just don't overtighten it is all.

Another thing I should mention is, knowing the sise of this thing, don't expect it to get through a small fence gate, its 36 inches long, it won't make it through unless you have a double gate. But if this is not a problem for you, then by all means pick this model because I find that the larger the roller is, the more weight it can put down to the ground, and the faster you get the job done.

I have a lawncare service and I also got this attachment so that I can role other people's lawns. If I ever felt that the durability of this attachment would not hold up under such conditions, I would not use it for such. So in other words, I feel that the framing is strong enough and the roller is strong, what more can you ask for such a good price?

Don't get me wrong, any proffesional can spend 250 bucks for a 24 * 48 steel lawn roller to get the job done, but if you feel that a 18 * 36 roller can meet your needs just fine without spending the higher price tag, you would be a fool not to do it.

In conclusion, I have not really had any problems with this roller itself besides learning that you can't just tighten the expansion plug snug. I felt that this roller was able to do all that I was asking of it and was well worth the money. Just don't forget that you can't take really tight turns with it, be gradual. And that its better to role when the yard is wet.

Furthermore, this roller could also be used after seeding in a new lawn, or rolling an area of dirt to get it level. And if you have tractor or truck ruts in your yard, don't expect this roller to help you, you would need a steem roller. This attachment is your best bang for buck, what more could you ask for? For I am a happy customer and would buy again!

What I like:

- Light weight.Light enough to manuever with one hand while the other hand tends the cord on turns.ALSO, this holds easily going across an incline, rather than up, which is hard on the lower back, or down, which is hazardous.

- Height adjustment is spring-loaded, and counter-balanced just right.Raising and lowering cutting height is quick and easy.It lowers in a snap from preferred lawn cutting height to its lowest setting for grass or leaves on the drive or street, whichquickly turn to near dust for ease of blow-off.

- It mulches great across the lawn; much, much better than the last 2 gas mowers I've owned.That's probably more due to design than power source -- but the mulching is the point.The clippings from one week's growth just disappear.And the St. Augustine grass common here in Florida doesn't mulch as easily as the bluegrass of Kentucky, as memory serves.

- A metal cutting deck, rather than the plastic offerings from a couple of competitors.

I can't speak to how well the bag works; haven't tried it.Bagging is a waste of time, effort, and fertilizer, imho ...

Drawbacks:

- uhhh ... It doesn't make enough noise to wake the neighbors.(Long story ...)

The padding on the handle is not durable.Not at all.But I see some padded bicycle handlebar tape in its future.

When my gas mower died a few weeks ago I started looking into electric mowers as a compliment to my battery operated BD, weedeater,blower,hedge clippers. I was hesitant as an electric mower for a 12,000 lot is a big step, giving up on ease of movement and power and selfpropelled feature or so i thought.

Well i ordered off of Amazon and it came within 72 hours, free shipping WOW and the price was terrific compared to local stores and no tax...

Anyway, i put it together and it was ready to use within 10 minutes, really!!!

You do need an electrical cord to operate and i had 100' cord which is perfect for my yard. My yard has not been mowed in several weeks as my gas mower died and i did not want to spend the money for reserection of a 4 year old mower plus gas prices are crazy right now. I did plan my route since i would have a cord i was pulling. Turned it on and it was amazing on how much less noise it was compared to my gas mower. My wife came out and asked when i was going to start but had been mowing for 15 minutes, lol.

I started in the mulching mode at first and not paying attention had it on the lowest setting....it was going fine but when i hit thicker deeper grass it did bogg down. I inserted the discharge shute and even on the lowest setting in taller grass it mowed fine. Once i realized i had it on the lowest setting and moved it up in height comparable to my gas mower the electric mower never bogged down one time even when mulching!!!The cord is not bad at all although i did have to get used to it as i wrapped it around the tree once and just laughed at myself. I thought i would miss the self propelled feature, however, this mower is sooo light its like pushing a vacum cleaner so i was managing the cord with my left, pushing with my right and no problems, mowed like a champ, no uneven cuts. My neighbors came out and were admiring the mower all commented on how nice and sleeked it looked for a mower and how quiet it was.

I would recommend this mower to anyone wanting to go electric as the cord is not that big a deal like i thought i would be when reading the reviews. So far so good B&D has a home run with this mower.

Fits a Honda HRX mower fine. Assembly took me 35 minutes including filling with sand. Direction were adequate. Fill with sand last, not first as stated incase you have to reture.

Price and construction:
For the price it is a decent product. Construction is to be expected for the price point. I would expect a 5+ year life span.

Product results:
I have a very well maintained, healthy kentucky bluegrass lawn. My striping results were nowhere nearly as pronounced and contrasted as the product result photos had implied. The striping is subtle, but noticable. My regular mow time is 35 minutes. Given the detail one would expect to acheive, it adds about 5 minutes to mowing time.

Other thoughts:
I will try to see if I can get better results if I mow in early morning and/or cooler days. Perhaps the grass blades will bend better??

First, my co-workers were skeptical about an electric mower, but I've had the experience in the past.
Here are some of the benefits:
- you can look under your mower by flipping it over and not worry about gaz or oil leaks.
- grass is cut from end to end of a yard easier with the flip handle than those that don't. (that should include all gaz mowers) Instead of closing in on the middle of your lawn, you start on one end and finish at the other end.(I like it)
- this mower doesn't retain anything underneath. I didn't know that some mowers would do that.From my previous experiences, you had to clean up the mower every couple of use.
- height adjustment is super simple.
- electronic brake.If you release the power (bar!), the blade stops in a micro second.This is great for safety.
- no smells of any sort (except first few minutes being a new electrical product)
I wouldn't trade it, and my yard is not small.

(More customer reviews)Before I bought my mm275 mower I was unsure whether I would want to put up with yet another electric mower.In particular, would it be able to hack through the thick grass better than our old tired mower?The answer is, yes, it does, even though it has the lower power 9 amp motor.It is quiet, it starts with no effort (well, mostly, more on this later) and it doesn't stink.And it cuts the grass at a pretty capable rate.I can walk at almost normal speed when the grass is 2-3 inches above the blade.
To use an electric mower you have to have electrical outlets that are not much more than 100 feet from every part of your lawn.You have to mow in dry grass only.And you have to not mind doing the cord dance, which doesn't bother me.
This mower has one problem, which is the switch.After half a summer of operation, the on-off switch on our mower is almost worn out.Pretty soon it isn't going to turn on anymore.This may be due to the "revving-up games" that my kids played before we became wise to the situation.Black and Decker have a replacement switch back-orderered for me, and I have reason to believe that with more judicious use of the switch (and a 12 gauge extension cord rather than 14 gauge) this next switch will probably last a lot longer.If it doesn't, you'll see a much less positive review here next year, and I'll be turning my mower offby unplugging the cord.

WORX WG712 13 amp 16-Inch Electric Lawn Mower Review

(More customer reviews)Ok, I confess.I was a bit skeptical, especially when I realized the Worx electric mower was only 16" wide-- I'm replacing a 20" Snapper. Even a little more skeptical when I pulled it out of the box-- I never, ever imagined a lawn mower could appear like something half space-ship, half cartoon in real life and still do a decent job-- but it looks very cool and modern! Then I noticed those familiar styled little plastic wheels that used to adorn my kids' Big Wheel trikes-- another strike. Finally, I flustered trying to "snap" together the 2-piece plastic grass-catcher.

But not to worry-- really, this is a "positive" review.

Once I got over all that and pulled the machine out onto my small urban front and back lawn, all doubts blew away.

The Worx 16-inch mower "works" like a dream (couldn't resist that). The 16" swath it cut was just right for my two 12x15' patches of grass. The 13 amps were perfect to cut my overgrown semi-wet grass without any trouble at all. I was relieved to discover the mower engine has a not-too-loud blower sound a little like a turbine. That seems to be less obnoxious than other electric mowers reviewed on Amazon. And the cutter deck height was simple to change with their single lever 6-height adjustment feature.

I stored the catcher untouched in my small garage. Using the mulcher attachment, most of the grass easily & cleanly worked its way back into the lawn with little obvious mess. About only thing that needs improvement here is use of a small black plastic clip to hold the attachement in. I'm sure that will eventually be lost.

As far as the "Big Wheels" go-- I wish it had real rubber ones, but so far the mower performance has eclipsed any complaints I might have had initially. I also am not impressed with their catcher-- I'd much rather see a 1-piece molded plastic version on future models.

So, as of its first use, I love my new mower and have happily laid my old smoking Snapper to rest. I'll report back after the summer has past with my final evaluation.

Black & Decker CMM1200 19-Inch 24-Volt Cordless Electric Mulching Lawn Mower Review

(More customer reviews)I just purchased this mower and mowed my lawn today.First, the positives:

1.This thing is as-advertised.There's no assembly required other than arranging the mulching bag and removing the mulcher - if that's what you want to do.

2.It was incredibly easy to start this thing - insert key and lift lever.

3.No mess, no gas, no oil, no air filter.The only maintenance described in the service manual is blade sharpening (once to twice per year) and battery replacement. (Possible two years?).

4.Charging the unit is as easy as charging a cell phone and it charged up overnight.It had enough juice to mow my 1/3rd acre lot with heavy spring weeds that were also a little wet without running out of battery juice.

5.It was very easy to clean.Just disconnect the key and then you can turn it over to clean the blade and guard without worrying about oil or gas spilling.

6. It's easy to disconnect handle and mulch bag for storage.

Negatives:

1. Although it's not incredibly heavy, it's not as light as my 5HP gas Craftsman mower.Since there's no self-propelling feature, it can get heavy if you had to go up hills - my lawn is relatively flat so no problem there.

2.The unit is basically plastic.It has a cheap feel to it - although I'm sure it would be too heavy if it was metal.

3.There's really nothing protecting the battery underneath the top cover and it's barely held there with a nylon strap.

4.The paper instruction manual is worthless.It has very little information in it and it's hard to read because one section is written and you have to go to another part of the manual for the pictures.

5.The unit came with Styrofoam inserts that surrounded the battery.I had a very strong feeling that these inserts were for shipping only and must be removed before operating the unit.However, there is nothing in the manual that states this either way and I had to figure it out for myself.

6.There are no instructions for how to replace the battery - you are instructed to take it to a service dealer.Perhaps they could have put more effort into the documentation.

7. The mulching bag doesn't seem to hold much grass.I had to empty it three times before I was done mowing.

All and all, I love this mower.I hated having to jack with gas and oil and filters and maintenance of gas mowers.Plus, this thing is relatively quiet compared to my gas mower.I recommend it.

(More customer reviews)I've just bought my first house and the yard was finally long enough to need a cut this weekend.

We have a pretty small lot, maybe 1/4 acre, and the backyard had almost no grass because of the way it was landscaped. I decided that I didn't need a big self-propelled mower, and originally through maybe I'd get a reel mower before I decided that keeping the blades in shape would be too much of a bother.

I did a little research and found that the MM875 had excellent reviews here on Amazon. This one, the MM1800, had no reviews, but from everything I see it's exactly the same but with a slightly narrower cutting diameter.

I ended up picking it up from Lowes, and then made another trip back after realizing that my extension cord was only 25' and not quite enough for my hard.

The mower is really very light and easy to set up in about 5 minutes. Starting it up is as easy as pulling the lever up against the handle, which I love because growing up, my dad's mower took 50 pulls to get it going.

The mower is very easy to push, and has an adjustable handle for different height preferences. The adjustment for the cutting height is also very well done, where you just have to move a single lever on one of the back wheels and it takes care of the whole mower.

I used the mower on mulching mode and didn't notice any piles of clippings anywhere; they were very very fine and evenly distributed. I have not tried the bag yet.

The only possible negative that I can bring up after this first mow is the cord, which is something that you should have gone into purchasing this mower knowing. I always used to mow the lawn twice around in a circle, then cut a diagonal down the center, and then follow that diagonal back and forth each direction. With the cord, this technique left me having to stop and adjust the cord a lot near the end of my mowing. In the future, I will do the two laps and then simply start at one end (either diagonally or horizontally) and mow progressively away from the outlet.

Pros:
No need for gas, and no battery to wear out

Cons:
Cord can get in the way if you don't plan your cutting patternEDIT: I've now had the mower for a few months and used it 10 or more times, and I really have no complaints still. The only possible thing I can add is that I have found that the "plug" for when you're using mulching rather than bagging can get a significant amount of grass build-up on it as compared to some other mowers I've used, but I don't see that as an issue whatsoever.

(More customer reviews)If I could give this mower 10 stars I would.I live on a sloping, uneven lot in Colorado, with some steep pitches.As a 65 year old woman, I wanted the lightest possible mower with no maintenance hassle.Battery operated or gasoline engine mowers would be too heavy.I wheel this around like a toy, often one handed as I brush shrubs or flowers out of the way.It does a beautiful job on the front lawn.But I also put it to the acid test yesterday, and cut the rough area on the steep back of my property.This mower went through 16 to 20 inch high grass and weeds (slowly so it would mulch thoroughly), shredded a large sprinkler head (ugh!) and cut through juniper branches.It never stopped, and only slowed a little when I hit a really big pile of viney weeds to mulch through. I ran it on the highest setting, but it was great to be able to lower it with a quick and easy touch when I wanted to.It's very easy to stop and start.What a wonderful change from the pull to start gas mower!Also, it never clogged no matter what I put under it, just mulched this large amount of organic matter into particles so small they aren't visible.Be aware if you buy it that a cord does not come with it. Also, delivery from The Outdoor Store/Dixie Sales was quick:ordered May 30 pm and received June 4 am.July 14, 2009 update:I didn't know an amp from a watt when I bought this.At first I used a 16 gauge 100 foot extension cord I had for Christmas tree lights.It seemed to run OK, but I could have damaged the motor.So just got the Woods 2885 Yellow Jacket 100-Foot 12/3 SJTW Yellow 15 Amp/125 Volt Rated Outdoor Extension Cord with PowerLite PlugRated Outdoor Extension Cord with PowerLite Plugand used it for the first time last night.With a 15 amp rating it has plenty of power for this 12 amp mower.It was absolutely no more difficult to move around, and the Alert Stamping 7000WR Pro-Reel Cord Carrier is great for tidy storage, easy to wind and unwind. Highly recommend both these products, too.

(More customer reviews)I purchased the Lawn Hog 12amp 19" from Amazon.com in April/2005.I have a large yard area. My front and back yards combined equal, at least, approximately 8,000sq. ft.

Over the years, I have had numerous different gas mowers.My last gas mower was a Sears 6.5HP 22" Self-Propelled with a Briggs&Stratton engine.
Pulling 15-20 times to start it (sometimes it took even more pulls) gets very tiring and frustrating! Don't they all claim a "3-push 1-Pull Start"? I decided to search online at Amazon.com for reviews of electric mowers. I hate having to mess with gas, oil, tune-ups, noise, shaking that made my hands numb during mowing (which I finally mitigated by wearing gel-padded cycling gloves).

My grass is "tall fescue" - it grows very thick - I live in the high desert in the Antelope Valley, CA (elev. 2346 ft.).As you can probably guess, it gets quite hot here during mid-to-late summer (105-115+).Even when I start mowing early (9-11am) it is already near 100 degrees so, I searched for the most powerful electric mower I could find.I wanted to make sure my time spent under the sun would not exceed that of a gas powered unit of equal power. Just as other reviewers have stated it arrived in a big box on my front porch.Assembling the handle and attaching the bagger was a snap.It IS a two-prong input into the handle of the Lawn Hog - I already had that type of cord. I plugged it in, pulled up the orange handle up and WHAMO! It roared to power!

In my opinion, this mower is comparable to a 6.5HP gas mower - others may disagree but I will tell you, this thing is POWERFUL.It cuts the grass with the cleanest cut out of any mower I have ever owned and does no damage to the lawn sprouts (as long as you do not set the height adjustment to scalp your lawn).The height adjustment is fingertip easy.

TIP#1: To assure the bag fills evenly
With the bag empty - cut for about 2-3 minutes, stop the mower, take off the bag, shake the accumulated contents to the rear of the bag and put the bag back on the Lawn Hog. Now you should be able to cut until the bagger reaches capacity and it will fill evenly.

TIP#2 KEEPING THE CORD OUT OF THE CUTTING PATH
Say, for instance, you want to mow your lawn up and down in an East-to-West pattern moving north as you mow.Uncoil your cord and accumulate it 5-10 feet away from you to the South - now, you will always be mowing and moving away from the cord location and, as long as you do not jerk a lot with your turns, the cord will not get in the way.

You may also want to consider purchasing a few plastic/steel spikes and situate them at strategic points on your lawn perimeter.Place the cord appropriately behind the spikes - this will stop the cord from following you and getting in your path - it takes experimentation but eventually you will get to know the perfect points to place them allowing you to mow nearly as effortlessly as with a free reign mower.

TIP#3 KEEPING THE UNDERCARRIAGE FREE OF DEBRIS BUILDUP
It is important to keep the undercarriage of the mower free and clear of debris, ESPECIALLY THE BLADE - a dull blade will make a dull cut and will start damaging your grass sprouts.This will cause browning and leave the lawn shoots exposed to disease, rot, insects etc. At lawncare.scotts.com website (by the way, a WEALTH of everyday practical information is located there about everything regarding lawn care, flowers, shrubs etc.) I came across a tip that suggested:
COATING THE BOTTOM OF YOUR MOWER WITH A NON-STICK SPRAY - they suggested any Non-Stick Oven/Pan Food spray would do. I purchased a can of PAM spray. The next time I cut the lawn, I first cleaned the undercarriage as well as I could by scraping it with a 3-inch plastic paint scraper.I was careful not to push on the blade too much for fear of throwing it out of balance. I then turned the Lawn Hog upside down and leaned it up against my garage wall (can't do this with a gas mower, can ya?!) and sprayed the inside with a thin coating of PAM (including the blade).I set the Lawn Hog down, right side up, and waited about 5 minutes to allow the spray to adhere. (The undercarriage of the Lawn Hog, which houses the blade, is plastic so be careful if you use any metallic scraping tools - you can easily put gouge marks into the undercarriage causing even worse accumulation of dirt, grass, unbalancing the blade etc. making it harder to clean up).I then cut my entire lawn. When I was done, I propped the Lawn Hog up against my fence and was happy to find minimal grass/dirt accumulation.I got busy with my 3-inch plastic paint scraper and the scrapings came off with nominal effort.Even the residue on the blade came off easily. THIS REALLY WORKS and it is relatively inexpensive too!
NOTE: SPRAY COAT THE BOTTOM BEFORE YOUR FIRST USE!It will make subsequent cleaning a breeze (I wish I had read about this tip before my first mow).

The Lawn Hog is very light and easy to push.As the bag accumulates, it takes a tiny bit more effort to push, but for me, it is negligible.

I used the Lawn Hog from April to June when I decided that a riding mower might prove better in reducing my physical exertion.I purchased a Sears 13.5HP Riding mower.All the headaches associated with gas, oil etc. started coming back to haunt me but I figured I owed it to myself to try.The first mow was a breeze.The next week I went out to start it and it was dead. I waited two weeks for replacement parts.After repairs, during which time I used the dependable Lawn Hog, the Riding mower ran fine but then, one of the front tires went flat and would not reseat itself properly.Another repair call, another delay.I noticed that no matter how I used the 6-position height adjustments the riding mower sometimes scalped areas of my grass and sometimes left other areas too long in length. I then attempted to change the riding mowers oil - WHAT A MISTAKE!The oil outlet valve did not protrude past the side edge of the riding mower and the oil spilled all over my garage floor and the mower housing itself.I decided, "THAT'S IT"!I returned it to Sears.
I am now happily mowing my lawn with the Lawn Hog and I cannot even imagine, in my wildest dreams, ever going back to an environmentally insane, stinky, oily, noisy, shaking gas mower of any kind.
By the way, the mulching function works fantastic and I now mulch much more than I bag, just remember to keep the blade clean.
I AM VERY HAPPY AND PLEASED WITH THIS MOWER.
